Obasanjo to be quizzed over illegal accumulation of wealth?

The former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo may soon be asked to justify his illegal accumulation of wealth during his regime, Human Rights Activists and constitutional lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana has said.
Falana who made this pronunciation yesterday at a 2-day leadership summit tagged, “Can I Rule the Leaders”, organized by the student union government of the Yaba College of Technology (now City University) in conjunction with Junior Chamber International, said the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) might question him on how he got the fund to revamp his Ota farm which had collapsed when he was incarcerated during the Abacha’s regime “It is in general knowledge that his farm at Ota has collapsed as a result of his three years incarceration under the Sanni Abacha’s junta.
Today, his farm is said to be worth billion of naira, we need explanations to this,” he said.
The President of the West African Bar Association(WABA),noted that Obasanjo had done well by enacting the EFCC and ICPC laws adding that the provisions of those laws would be used to question him when the time comes. While describing the Chairman of EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as God sent who could curb corruption in the country, he noted that the commission has performed well by its recent arrest of some corrupt former governors.“Ribadu is an accident in Obasanjo’s regime. I believe EFCC is priortising its arrest. When it comes to Obasnjo’s turn, he will be asked by the law to justify his wealth. What is good for the goose, is good for the gander. Let us give EFCC and ICPC a chance to deal with the malaise of corruption that have stunted thegrowth and development in this country”, he said
